the unspoken you

if I smile now, it's involuntary
not thinking
the way one smiles at the laughter of children
lost in their joy
or the kindness of a stranger
unasked

having told me your secrets
we were more intimate than the touch of flesh
or the surrender of desire
and I am aware now that other men
having shared your body
will never know you as deeply

even in the distance
having been inside you
the unspoken you
is a sweetness that sustains me
and the smile that comes
will come again
